“You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching, Love like you'll never be hurt, Sing like there's nobody listening, And live like it's heaven on earth.”

ABOUT THIS BLOG:

THIS blog was created as an attempt to record the adventures and wanderlust of a gypsy at heart in her GYPSY caravan, "Bella Rosa".

A Gypsy Caravan is a traditional horse-drawn wagon originally used by Romani people as a form of living accommodation. Gypsy Caravans are elaborately decorated, hand carved and ornately painted with traditional Romani symbols. "Bella Rosa", however, defies almost all of the above. It is actually no caravan nor wagon. It is just our tent trailer; a Coachman Clipper with 2 large beds at either end which sleep 4 comfortably. The dining table folds down to make a small bed for additional sleeping arrangements. It comes with a small fridge a sink that can be hooked up to running water, a furnace that runs on propane or can be hooked up to electricity, and a two burner stove. And it is just an excuse to surround myself with a pretty clutter of fabric designs, jewerly and Boho style decor...

The perfect little nest for the gypsy hiding in ME!

I just want to see the world

ABOUT THE GYPSY GIRL WHO LIVES HERE:

I got a little wild streak in my heart and it often shows in my style. I like lush colors, rich textures, long flowy skirts and junk jewelry. I am a free spirit with my own unique vision of life and the world. I put a high value on free choice and tend to avoid people who are judgmental or controlling.

Here's to my gypsy life...

THE DANCE OF THE GYPSY SOUL:

THE GYPSY GIRL:

We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams, wandering by lone sea-breakers, and sitting by desolate streams; world-losers and world-forsakers, on whom the pale moon gleams: Yet we are the movers and shakers of the world for ever, it seems.

~Arthur O'Shaughnessy, "Ode," 1874

BACK TO THE GYPSY THAT I WAS

So I´m back to the velvet underground, back to the floor that I love, to a room with some lace and paper flowers, Back to the gypsy that I was, to the gypsy that I was".

HERE IS TO MY GYPSY LIFE AND ECLECTIC HOME:

A hint of mystery surrounds the appeal of gypsy fashion, possibly because gypsies are quite mysterious themselves. Their exact origins still hold some uncertainty, but they are believed to have originated in the Punjab region of India, Egypt or in a village in Greece known as "Gyppe." The portrayed style of gypsies has included long, flowing skirts, large hoop earrings, beaded jewelry and scarves featuring vibrant colors.

Does this Spark an idea?

Reflecting on the fashion style of "boho-chic" in the early years of the 21st century, the Sunday Times thought it ironic that "fashionable girls wore ruffly floral skirts in the hope of looking bohemian, nomadic, spirited and non-bourgeois", whereas "gypsy girls themselves... are sexy and delightful precisely because they do not give a hoot for fashion".

A gypsy at heart

When it comes to your own life, you reveal very little. You are like a mysterious doorway that no key truly fits.

"It is impossible to imagine a more complete fusion with nature than that of the Gypsy."

Franz Liszt

But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between you"

(Khalil Gibran)

Boho-chic is a style of female fashion drawing on a combination of the nontraditional styles of gypsies and various bohemian and hippie influences. Layers are common, usually with an element of messiness involved. Overall, the style should be unique, establishing a sense of individuality through wardrobe. To perfect boho-chic style, it is important to maintain a delicate balance between a messy yet feminine and unique appearance. Boho-chic fashion includes several different distinctive styles that range from artsy to exquisite.

"Dance is bigger than the physical body... When you extend your arm, it doesn't stop at the end of your fingers, because you're dancing bigger than that; you're dancing spirit."

Judith Jamison

Wear a long, flowing skirt. Long skirts almost never go out of style and they are a staple item in the wardrobe of a gypsy. Long skirts also bring a level of comfort. To bring modern appeal to this gypsy costume, a solid black skirt works, but there are many other colors and fabrics that can be worn for a gypsy costume.

Adorn yourself with jewelry and hoop earrings. Hoop earrings are a staple item in the jewelry arsenal of a gypsy. Large hoop earrings in either gold or silver will complement the gypsy attire. Add beaded necklaces and gold or silver bangle bracelets to complete the look. You can also wear a large statement ring. Gypsies are often portrayed wearing quite large amounts of jewelry.

Be creative and don't be afraid to try bold.

Tie a scarf around your head by folding it in half and placing the middle of it on top of your head. Tie the scarf in the back in a medium-tight knot. Many gypsies are depicted wearing scarves this way. If you have long hair, curl it in subtle waves by wrapping it around the barrel of a curling iron. Wear sandals to pull together the look. A clutch purse or cross-body bag would be attractive with this gypsy-esque outfit.

The beauty within Gypsy culture is acquainted to the travelling experiences in backwoods and country wilds: a history laced in sentimentalities and values, inspired through natural resources, ancient wisdom, all passed down from generation to generation. This creates a notion and feeling of nostalgia deep within my soul.

I'm with the gypsies at heart...

What is it about tent trailers that so appeal my gypsy heart?

They're alluring, and romantic. They are practical...

And a comfortable, gypsy type of a house where to speed away to distant scenes... and always in perfect bohemian style!

They infer adventure and freedom and wanderlust...

Extra lovely sheer panels embellished with beads and sequins for gypsy glitter and glam. The perfect choice for my gypsy caravan!

Gypsy lanterns for some romantic soft light...

Of course, some roses too!

And some Boho books for inspiration...

Tent trailers infer adventure and freedom and wanderlust. All in all, our "Gypsy Caravan" is just the perfect modern moving medium for the wanderer gypsy in me...

My gypsy lover's quarters. I didn't want to make it extra bohemian looking for him, because knowing his preferences in style, I knew I had to go easy on the colors and decorations....

Less color... minimalist style; except for the romantic touch of the gypsy sheer panels--love it!

In fact I think I'm loving his side much more than mine...

That's OK, I'm sure he wouldn't mind sharing residence with me!

I truly love these panels... it's like sleeping under itty bitty shinning stars.

Tea anyone?

So, we're ready to make another escape into the wilderness again

Gypsy dancing shoes are ready

Extra gorgeous necklace for those lovely evening fiestas

Love love all the little shams... love it so much that this is how I see it. A magical starry necklace indeed!

I'm ready for a dance under the full moon to the music of a "guitarra gitana" (gypsy guitar)

Express yourself in some artistic way...

THE CARAVAN

I love the gypsy aspect of this business—called camping in a tent trailer.

To a room with some lace and paper flowers. Back to the gypsy that I was... to the gypsy that I was

"The Gypsy Caravan". It's camping, but with style. i.e. glamour camping.

GYPSY BLOOD

"I'm not certain, but I have a little gypsy blood in me. And my mother always told me that her grandma could give someone the evil eye, and I'd better not cross her because she had some of that blood in her. Mother always believed that she could predict the future, and she had dreams that came true" (Sam Raimi)

GYPSY-INSPIRED FLORAL CANDLES

The Gypsy Ingredients: Amber, Cedar Wood, Jasmine, Patchouli, Rose, Sandalwood, Bergamot, Carnation, Ylang Ylang.

“I wish I could do whatever I liked
behind the curtain of
“madness”.
Then I’d arrange flowers,
all day long, I’d paint pain, love and
tenderness,
I would laugh as much as I feel like at the stupidity of others,
and they would all say: “Poor thing, she’s crazy!”
Above all I would laugh at
my own stupidity.
I would build my world which while I lived,
would be in
agreement with all the worlds.
The day, or the hour, or the minute that I lived
would be mine and everyone else’s
my madness would not be an escape from
“reality”.

(Frida Kahlo)
